Kaha Company for Preserved Foods is a subsidiary of the Holding Company for Food Industries at the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. It is the first company established in Egypt in the field of canning. It was established in 1940 and started with one factory in the city of Kaha, Qalyubia Governorate, under the name (The Egyptian Factory for Food).
In 1961, the Tahrir Factory was annexed to the Kaha Company, which is located in the Badr Center in Al-Buhaira Governorate. It produces legumes and juices.
In February 1962, the company was re-established as an Egyptian joint stock company, after adding several factories to it and merging them into one company under the name and trademark (Al-Nasr Company for Preserved Foods “Kaha”).
In 1965, the Tabiya factory was annexed to the Kaha Company, which is located in Tabiya City, Alexandria Governorate (Rashid Line). It produces juices, jams, vegetables, and canned and frozen fruits. It is considered one of the largest production units affiliated with the company for the integration of its production lines, and it holds the ISO certificate (9001-2000).
In 1967, the Abu Kabir factory was annexed to the Kaha Company, and it is located in Abu Kabir, Sharkia Governorate.
In 1973, the Al-Qurain Factory was annexed to the Kaha Company, which is located in the city of Al-Qurain in the Sharkia Governorate. It produces natural and industrial sherbet products, and dries dates and grapes for the production of dates and raisins.
Due to the success achieved by the company and the practical experience it gained in the field of canning and preserving food products, its production has become required all over the world.
It is worth noting that the Kaha Company had an important and major role in providing preserved food to the armed forces during the War of Attrition and the October War.
In 1991, the company became subject to the provisions of the Business Sector Law No. 203 of 1991. The company’s articles of association were published in the Egyptian Gazette No. 78 of 1993, and the company’s name was changed to (Kaha Preserved Foods) Company.
Within the framework of implementing the government’s program to expand the ownership base of business sector companies, the holding company sold 90% of the company’s shares to a major investor, “Auf Group of Companies.” Hence, the company was subject to the provisions of Law No. 159 of 1981.
In view of the failure of the investor to manage the company and the accumulation of financial losses on the shoulders of the company during his management period, the holding company filed lawsuits to recover the company. Payment of the investor’s financial obligations towards suppliers, customers, and sovereign entities that have not been paid by the investor, etc., and the company succeeded in managing the wheel of production and restoring some of its local, Arab and international markets.
And when the holding company applied the early retirement system, this caused the disruption of the company’s administrative structure, as the Kaha company lost nearly 50% of its technical and productive cadres, as private sector companies rushed to join them to work for it, and they became one of the most important reasons for its success, and work continued under judicial receivership, and on 28/ 11/2007 The ownership of the company’s shares was completely transferred to the Holding Company for Food Industries, and the Alexandria Court ruling was issued on 5/25/2008 in invitation No. 76/2008 to lift the guard. The extraordinary general assembly of the company was also held on 6/24/2008 and the company’s articles of association were approved. Resolution No. 75 of 2009 was issued on 3/5/2009 by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Holding Company for Food Industries appointing experienced members of the Board of Directors of Kaha Preserved Food Company for a period of 3 years, starting from 4/5/2009.
Second: Edfina Company:
The company was established in May 1956 with a 100% Egyptian capital amounting to 76.8 million Egyptian pounds.
The company works in the field of manufacturing and freezing vegetables, fruits and fish. The company has set up a group of specialized factories on the latest technical systems and technology to keep pace with global developments in the field of (manufacture and preservation of juices – nectars – jams – syrups – tomato products of all kinds – canned vegetables and legumes – canned fish)
The company also owns a factory for freezing vegetables with the latest international systems, and a factory for the production of tin containers and their covers of all kinds, according to international standards and with advanced European technology.
The construction of the Damietta factory began on October 10, 1958 on an area of 7,500 square meters
The factory was opened in 1960
During the period from its start-up in 1960 until 1965, the factory continued to operate at maximum capacity, so it worked all hours of the day in three shifts, but its abundant production was affected due to the interruption of sardines after the flood waters receded after the construction of the High Dam, so it turned to dependence on salmon, mackerel and sardines. and frozen tuna imported from abroad, so profits decreased with the increase in production costs, and then the curve began to move towards loss after it was no longer able to compete with imported canned food, so it was decided to include the factory in the Edfina company
